Gah!I can't believe I haven't blogged since Wednesday. Nutso week, including a round of circus workshops, a heinous cold, and some peripheral Los Angeles Festival of Books socializing.
Let's start with the LAFOB! I was lucky enough to meet Booksquare's maven Kassia Kroszer for Happy Hour after Saturday's installment of the Festival. She knows more about the publishing industry than I've ever known about anything...ever...in my entire life. But if that was enough to make my head spin, we were also joined by her husband Kirk, the fabulous Sarah Weinman and Irishly awesome Richard Nash.
It was like eaves dropping on a book industry brain trust. I seriously felt like the 18-year-old green recruit assigned to the squadron of veterans protecting Dulles International Airport from a terrorist attack on Christmas Eve, waiting half-expectantly for John Amos to reach over and slit my throat.
Wait. Maybe it wasn't like that at all. Sorry.
Anyway, it was a lovely cocktail hour, made lovelier when Richard discovered they were giving away free wine. Score!
The circus is in full swing. I laid down a seriously awesome (if I do say so myself) vocal track for the trampoline routine that ends Act I. I even managed to homage Madame Butterfly's "Un bel di vedremo" which like, a fraction of the audience might catch but which makes me supremely happy. I remember last year when they told me I'd have to basically come up with my own vocal lines. Scared the poop outta me! I mean, seriously, I'm used to interpreting music off the stage, but I'm no improv vocalist. I guess I'm getting used to the ways of the circus...
How scary is that?
And for those of you who are interested, we'll be opening much earlier this year: June 18th! Ticket info still to come...
uh free wine? yes please
