So if you didn't notice from my progress bar, I finally managed to finish the first draft of my WIP The Escape. Yiha, right?
Right.
Inwardly, I'm bouncing off the walls in some sort of sad, clumsy recreation of Lionel Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling" video from 1986.
Oh, you SO know you wanted that.
Anyway, you all know my loathing, fermenting hatred of writing first drafts, so to have this one done is like... ah! That's the best way I can describe it. ah!
However, this bitch needs a lot of work. I changed several major characters at about the halfway point, two major plot points got a total rehaul and just now as I'm working on Draft #2 I've decided to add one more piece to the puzzle. And while I do keep copious notes on all the changes I want to make, I end up with most of it just whirling around in my mind that room full of flying keys in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and half the time I feel like I'm grabbing blindly at different elements as I find keyholes to shove them into.
And now I'm officially not making sense.
Aren't you sorry you read this blog?
I'm glad I'm not the only one in this state of mind.
ReplyDeleteNah, not sorry I read this blog because i deliberately ignored the video...the eighties *shudders*
Great job, Gretchen! And I'm so glad to hear how you do this whole revising thing. It sounds just like...this girl I know. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYOU KNOW YOU ALL LOVE LIONEL RICHIE SO DON'T EVEN TRY TO PRETEND OTHERWISE!
ReplyDeleteI love him, yup, sure do.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on first draft completion and progress on draft #2. That is when things start to get really good, isn't it? Things take shape, fall into place, you find clever themes you didn't even know you had ;) Good luck with it!

ReplyDeleteYou know what this makes me picture? You in your sad, singing clown outfit rolling around on the ceiling a la Linda Blair in The Exorcist. Now, aren't you sorry I comment on your blog?
And congrats on finishing a draft!
Congratulations!! That is exciting!!!
