Today's episode of Shout Out Thursday is brought to you by the little things you take for granted while working in an office.1. Shout Out to "Donut Wednesdays," "Bagel Mondays," "Kosher Fridays" or any other food-related name label that helps get the office drone through the week. Sure, Wednesday is still going to suck ass, but it's going to be a little bit sweeter (okay, a lot) with a giant chocolate-glazed buttermilk bar staring up at me from my desk. It's amazing what $7.50 at the local Winchell's can do for office morale.
2. Shout Out to the coffee delivery man. Once a month he arrives pushing his dolly loaded up with Starbucky goodness. Never again will receptionist fight with office manager over who has to run to CVS on their lunch break to purchase the ground crack beans. "Would you like 3 pounds or 4 this month?" Hmm, well half the office has been laid off, but hell I'm still here. "4. And can you throw in some of those French Vanilla creamers?" Sweet.
3. Shout Out to collating, sorting, stapling copy machines. Once upon a time (I like to call it the Dark Ages) copiers did one thing. They copied. You could do one copy or a hundred, but if you needed to make a stack of multi-page packets, you'd be spreading those copies out across the conference table in a sweatshop assembly line that would make you dizzy. Follow that up with a session of carpal tunnel fun with the archaic stapler and you needed a chiropractor by the weekend. But now in the Technological Age? The glorious multi-function copier. It can sort a 20-page, single-sided packet into a 10-page double sided one, collate 40 versions and staple them, neatly, serenely, without you having to do so much as press a button. *sigh* I heart you, Canon X45D10.
4. Shout Out to the "Thank God It's Friday" Guy. What would I do without you constantly reminding me that it's Friday, that I should be thankful it's Friday and that I should be thankful to his god that it is, in fact, Friday? I might forget, you know. Think it's Thursday despite my casual jeans and sneakers attire. But no, I have you to keep me on track. Every Friday. Clockwork.
*headdesk*
You're hilarious. That's all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteHi Gretchen,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and, as so often happens, I don't remember what led me here. I think I googled Ginger Clark and it led to your interview with her. Great blog you have here. Very informative. Good luck on selling the Witch's Eye!
We have bagel Thursday's and there's a constant debate about the quality of coffee. We have designated people to make the coffee in the office so it is consistantly pleasing.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank god for the super copier machines. That way I can read you fabulous blog instead of staple!
(Lola Talula is actually Shannon by the way.)
ReplyDeleteYay Bagel Thursdays! And thanks Prince and Courtney for the lovely words. You guys are so sweet!
