pandora/ipod: "never enough" by the cure"In her sophomore novel, Jaden (Losing Faith) offers an intimate and enlightened rendering of anorexia and bulimia...Loann's fight against forces that might be beyond her control is both harrowing and inspiring. While Jaden does not provide simple answers for the problems presented, she dramatically illustrates the importance of speaking out and reaching out."

ABOUT NEVER ENOUGH
From the author of Losing Faith, a novel about two sisters and the eating disorder that threatens to destroy their family.
Loann’s always wanted to be popular and pretty like her sister, Claire. So when Claire’s ex-boyfriend starts flirting with her, Loann is willing to do whatever it takes to feel special…even if that means betraying her sister.
But as Loann slips inside Claire’s world, she discovers that everything is not as it seems. Claire’s quest for perfection is all-consuming, and comes at a dangerous price. And Loann is frightened she could lose the sister she’s always idolized.
As Claire increasingly withdraws from friends and family, Loann struggles to understand her and make amends. Can she heal their relationship—and her sister—before it’s too late?

Before we get to the interview, Denise is holding a contest on her blog for four boxes of great books! Find out more HERE!
GM: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the writing "process"?
DJ: I love first drafting. I participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) each year, and have successfully produced a draft of at least one book during each November since 2007. My least favorite part is working from an editorial letter. I work really well when I can see notes within my manuscript, even if they’re talking about big changes, but looking at overall concepts and then trying to figure out how to implement them is really tough on my poor little brain.
GM: What was the main inspiration for this book?
DJ: A good friend of mine struggled with eating disorders for many years, and as I got closer with her, I found myself wanting to understand her more and wishing I could help. I wrote Never Enough to sort out my feelings and to delve beyond my surface understanding.
GM: Who would you cast if your book was made into a movie?
DJ: If Kat Dennings was a little younger, she would make a PERFECT Loann. Daren Kagasoff would make a great Marcus, and I’d love to see AnnaSophia Robb as Claire.
GM: If you could ask one person, living or dead, a single question that they'd HAVE to answer, who and what would be it?
DJ: I don’t know. This question is too hard! Okay, I’d ask my editor if she’s going to buy my next book. LOL.
FAST FIVE:
Pie or Cake? Pie
Coffee or Tea? Usually green tea, or Bengel Spice Tea, but coffee is a special treat
Mac or PC? PC
Guilty Pleasure? Coldstone Creamery’s Mud Pie Mojo
Can't live without? My iPhone. Sad but true.

She wrote Losing Faith in 21 days? Seriously? I should hang it up now...
ReplyDeleteWishing Denise much success on her new novel. Great interview! :-)
