Catching Up

I feel like the Blogosphere's whacky aunt who flits in and our of your lives as the mood - and whatever zany new "project" I'm working on - takes me. But I'm back. I'm blogging. I've got a metric shit ton of stuff to catch up on. And I'm starting with you guys.

The circus has ended. I'm sure you were bloody well sick and tired of hearing about it and scanning through endless clown make-up'd photos of me, but there it is. The circus is such a massive part of my life, while I'm doing it, it's all encompassing.

I even did a vlog for the YARebels - or at least attempted to (someone kept interrupting me...) - about the difficulties I've faced trying to reconcile being a performer with being a writer. It's not a combination I've been very successful with. I'm going to have to work on it.

There were some AMAZEBALLS moments during the January 2011 Cirque Berzerk run:

- celebrity sightings included Adam Lambert, Alice Cooper, Pau Gasol and Billy Idol

- vocally, I think I really grew and improved during this run, something I haven't really felt in ages

- the feeling of community with this group only gets stronger over time: the circus isn't just my castmates anymore, they're family

- I got to sing "Dead Man's Party" sharing a microphone with Johnny Avila from Oingo Boingo. Yeah, you read that right.

Over for now and I spent most of last week in a funk about it. I'm so grateful to have my 9-5 day job, especially in this economy, but it's like little pieces of my soul are falling away each and everyday. Okay, that might be a little dramatic, but you get my meaning.

The good news about the circus being over for now is that I can focus on writing again. I have some fantastic new ideas I'm mulling over, and hopefully will have a direction to go on a new novel soon, soon, soon. Something dark and suspenseful, in a sort of Dexter-y Hitchcockian way. I hope. :)

Plus there will be some AWESOME happenings with POSSESS that I can start announcing soon. Stay tuned....

So yes, I think you're pretty much caught up with me. I've been so out of the loop - what the hell's been going on with all of you?

  1. I understand how a day job can eat away at your soul...

Btw, I wish I could have seen a show of Cirque Berzerk. You guys seem so awesome! :D

  2. Still hoping the circus will make it to Dallas. The Cirque Berzerk website just looks amazing. Glad you'll have some down time for writing, though.

  3. I've enjoyed the circus pictures and wished I lived close enough to see the show.

It's a struggle to find balance, whether you're working full-time or writing full-time. Keep at it, Gretchen, I'm sure you'll find your way.
