NEW TITLE!!!!!

mood: bouncy
pandora/ipod: "everyday is halloween" by ministry

Well, I always knew it was a possibility but about two weeks ago I found out that we were going to have to change the title of BANISH. At first, I was sad: it's sort of like losing an old friend. But after much brainstorming and back-and-forth, we have an official, approved new title which we are all REALLY excited about. Ready?

POSSESS

I love the multitude of meanings, especially in the context of the novel. I love that it's still a verb, which is active and has a connotation of movement. I love that it's kind of sexy with all those sibilant "S"'s.

When I get to debut the cover art in a few months, you'll see how TOTALLY FREAKING PERFECT they are together!

And of course, that means I have a new Trailer to debut...

And on a totally non-writing related note:

I've been a San Francisco Giants fan since I was a child. My mom and I had season tickets until I went to college. We were at Game 4 of the 1989 World Series when the Giants were swept by the Oakland A's. And finally, after all these years, I can say proudly -

THE GIANTS ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!

The Island of Misfit Toys made good. I can't stop smiling.

  1. Love the new title (though I liked Banish too!) If you can share, why did it change? Was it too similar to another book coming out, etc?

  4. BANISH was too close to another YA paranormal title that came out this year so the unilateral decision was made to change it. Editor, agent and I brainstormed and in the end came up with something we all really liked!

  6. Having seen another YA book called BANISHED, I was wondering if your title would change. But as much as I like the new one–and I love the way you incorporated it into the revised trailer!–it does remind me of the YA book coming out by Elana Johnson in June 2011, POSSESSION.
However, hers is YA dystopia and yours is horror, so I'm guessing there's room for both.

    GO GIANTS!!!
