pandora/ipod: "pumped up kicks" by foster the people
I'll start by saying, I'm still writing! This is good. This is strong. This means I haven't fled my apartment screaming like a crazy lady or launched by laptop off Point Dume into the gurgling waves below. These are good things.
I also am not sure I'm not writing steaming piles of horse shit right now.
C'est la vie d'un auteur, mais oui?
The good news! I'm still on target. ("Stay on target. Stay on target.") And thus far I don't hate myself, my characters, my book, my life, my dog, my neighbors, my desk, my chair or my extremely patient friends and family who get to listen to me whinge upon occasion. Yes! WIN!
I hit 30K last night for this first draft. I'm guessing that's about the halfway point, with more words to add in the revision as I flesh things out. I'm feeling good about my August 1 deadline. I can do this!
Wow. You already caught up to me. I'm gonna have to kick it into high gear now. (Not that this is a race that you didn't know anything about or anything like that...) ;)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. The first drafts always kinda blow chunks. That's why we have 'em, or so I'm told!
Question: has the story or any of the characters changed since you first thought it all up? I find that there's some minutia that creeps its way in every time that makes me rethink some things about plot and personality. Just wonderin'...
Yay! You're cruisin'!
ReplyDeleteI hope to hit 30k by early next week!
Also, don't know if you saw on the "next one" thread, but I'm totally in if you need a beta.
whoooo! keep on cruisin'! you're doing awesome! and all first drafts are full of hidden cowpatties! don't worry about it now, just step carefully when you edit/revise! :)
ReplyDeletealso! thanks for the envelope with the super cool bookmark and temp tattoos! so glad to be a winner in that giveaway! and the bookmark? breathtakingly beautiful and haunting! LOVE!!
Thanks for all the support, kids!
ReplyDeleteAnd Phil, things are constantly changing while I'm writing the first draft. Usually not so much after that.
Yay for staying on target! I'm trying to get back into the groove of meeting similar word count goals, but DAMN, it can be rough sometimes. Yay for grim determination! and you know, creativity and stuff ;)
ReplyDeleteWow Gretchen!! I need to drink from your Koolaid! 30k is always a nice mile marker. Makes it feel real!
ReplyDeletewoot woot! Rough drafts are always a bit...well...rough. It's surging on that matters. Keep it up!
