Just last week, I had a guest post on Nova Ren Suma's blog as part of her "Turning Points" feature where I partially discussed the difficulty I have identifying myself as a writer. It's something I've been working on, so imagine my dismay when this weekend, I totally froze up when someone asked me the dreaded question:
So, what do you do?
*sigh*
Here's a reenactment of the awkward.
Thank you for the earworm!!! I've had that song in my head last week, and now, it's back.
ReplyDeleteNow, on to more important things. I feel the same way. Very hard to identify as a writer as well, especially as a not yet pubbed writer. I think it's the self-doubt. Writers, in my humble opinion, are by nature used to rejection, confusion, doubt, etc. So, it makes that whole self-identity stuff another pile of confusion soup.
And to the most important thing of all...HOW do you always get your hair that perfect??? I need lessons. :)
I self-identify based on the profession I practice that pays the bills. So, currently, I'm a network/systems administrator. But, if lucky, I will one day say "Oh, I'm a writer." We'll see how that goes. It's a difficult road ahead (just like the road behind), and you never know where the floating clouds will take you.
ReplyDeleteTina: (a) I'm not sure self-doubt ever goes away! Or at least, mine doesn't. (b) I literally blow dry it right before I shoot the vlog. :D
ReplyDeletePhil, that's exactly the problem I'm having, only I have three jobs that pay the bills!
