Wednesday Potpourri

A few things I want to talk about today. I'll start with the pimping.

My fellow Bookanista Stasia Kehoe has an amazeballs cover to reveal this week. AUDITION - though it's about ballet instead of opera - totally hits home for me. As does this awesome cover:

In addition, I'll be contributing to Stasia's A YEAR OF AUDITIONS with some of my more bizarre, amazing and heart-breaking audition stories throughout my mostly marginalized singing career.

In other pimpage, if case you've been trapped under a freaking ROCK, Lisa and Laura Roecker's debut THE LIAR SOCIETY went viral hit the shelves yesterday. I was lucky enough to read an early (read, "pre-agented") partial of this novel and I'll be reviewing the finished project here tomorrow for the Bookanistas. You don't want to miss that. Trust me.

~~~~~~~~~~
I'm SUPER DOOPER excited this week. Can't you tell? If Stasia's cover and LiLa's debut aren't enough, I'm getting an ARC of SPOILED this Thursday. My dear UCLA friend (GO BRUINS!) Jessica is one half of Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, more commonly known as the Go Fug Yourself girls. Not only does this June debut from Poppy have one of my favorite covers of 2011, but I've been looking forward to reading the FugGirls' fiction debut for...ever? Look for a string of Bookanista reviews of SPOILED in coming weeks. And make sure you keep this summer beach read on your "TBR" list!
Lastly, me. I've got a guest post on the inspiring Elana Johnson's blog today on perseverance, or as I've titled it: Stubborn or Stupid? I feel like every Irish reader of my blog understands this concept INTRINSICALLY.
This is a particularly personal blog post for me, discussing my first novel which went out to editors, how it didn't sell, and how I dealt with the reality of putting that beloved manuscript on the shelf indefinitely. Writing success stories are built on the carcasses of heartbreak, children. Glorious, soul-wrenching heartbreak. And I swear the cliche is true: the suffering and struggle makes us better.
